Saltend Chemicals Park, a strategic industrial hub near Hull, is set to expand with the construction of a second Soarnol™ production line by Mitsubishi Chemicals UK Ltd. This new facility will boost the annual output of EVOH resin, used in high-barrier food packaging and various industrial applications, by 18,000 tonnes. Bilfinger UK Ltd has been appointed Principal Contractor, overseeing structural, mechanical, and EC&I works, while PX Group and NGUK subcontractors will manage demolition and utility upgrades. The project blends greenfield development with brownfield enhancements, integrating improvements from the existing Line 1. Governed by the NAECI and a newly signed Supplementary Project Agreement (SPA), the initiative ensures compliance with national employment standards and trade union recognition.
“Securing this significant award and being part of this Project is a testament to our team’s expertise and commitment to delivering excellence,” said Darren Clement, Vice President of Engineering, Automation & Projects, Bilfinger Engineering and Maintenance UK.
“The ECIA is pleased that its long-standing member company Bilfinger will deliver this project and provide vital employment opportunities for the workforce in the area directly or via various subcontractors”, explained John Simpson, Managing Director of the ECIA.
With leading global companies already on site and proximity to major transport links, Saltend continues to position itself as a powerhouse of UK manufacturing and innovation.
