During his visit to the PetroIneos refinery in Grangemouth in April, the ECIA Managing Director John Simpson announced that in 2024 the ECIA wishes to focus on deepening relationships with its members and also with NAECI site owners.
In July, John visited the ExxonMobil Fawley Petrochemical Complex in Hampshire, the UK’s largest integrated petrochemical complex, producing a range of energy products, lubricants and chemicals. The refinery is owned by Esso Petroleum Company Limited, a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation, which acquired the site in 1925.
John explains: “I am pleased to have met with the representatives of ExxonMobil to discuss the Category 2 Repair and Maintenance activities delivered by the ECIA members. I have also consulted with the Fawley Strategy Project team on the progress of their NAECI Category 1 Major Project.”
This site has been growing and evolving and currently, it is in the main construction phase of a new low-sulphur diesel facility with the addition of a new hydrogen plant. This major, £800m investment, is to secure Britain’s energy future, for example, by enabling the production of sustainable aviation fuel and by reducing import demand.
The main ECIA contractors on site are headed up by BGen+Kent Plc responsible for the Category 1 project. Altrad Services Ltd, Enerveo, Bilfinger and Rhyal Engineering Ltd are the main contractors on the Category 2 repair and maintenance site. John adds: “I am pleased to have met the representatives of Altrad, and Bilfinger and discussed our ongoing relationship, the NAECI contract and progress on site.”
“As we move to the second half of 2024, I shall continue to visit further sites and look forward to receiving feedback from our members and their clients. Deeper customer intimacy will improve our and their working relationships and help to shape the future of the engineering and construction industry.”
