Chester, UK – September 19, 2024 – The Engineering Construction Industry Association (ECIA) hosted its Annual General Meeting at the Crowne Plaza in Chester. This face-to-face meeting brought together some of the most experienced and senior professionals in the Engineering and Construction industry to discuss the future direction of the ECIA and to provide a platform for shaping how the ECIA supports industry.
The AGM also served to elect ECIA Office Bearers, with Ian Guy, Head of Construction at Wood plc, returning in his role as President. Ian expressed his gratitude on re-election, stating, “I am pleased to continue in my role which I see as helping to bring stability to the Association against a backdrop of transformation and modernisation..”
The event featured various guest speakers who addressed current topics, including member benefits and the industry-wide skills shortage. Helen Baker, Director of Employee Benefits at Welplan, emphasized the importance of prioritizing site operatives’ welfare by offering them the benefits of Welplan. Andrew Hockey, CEO of ECITB, discussed the ECITB’s role in promoting opportunity to help in the skills shortage, highlighting the role of training. He noted that the ECITB provides bespoke training for ECIA members enabling them to develop new talent as well as upskill existing employees. Thomas Hyland, Framework Director from Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick, shared insights on how apprenticeships can benefit both employers and the industry, drawing from his own experiences.
John Simpson, ECIA Managing Director, concluded the meeting by reaffirming the association’s commitment to its members. “I shall continue to deepen the ECIA’s relationship with the member companies and represent their best interests in the industry,” he said.
The ECIA aims to become an integral platform for its members, enabling them to leverage their expertise and best practices to advance the industry.
