The ECIA, in conjunction with its member Altrad, signatory Trade Unions and the National Joint Council for Engineering Construction have collaborated to develop a bespoke Welfare Arrangement for a recent shutdown of a Teesside chemical plant which produces vital, time-critical agricultural and industrial aggregates.
This turnaround event was classified as a Category 3 event under the NAECI and, in conjunction with this Welfare Arrangement, formed the terms and conditions of employment for all in-scope operatives employed on this project.
The welfare Arrangement for this project included arrangements relating to the working hours, rates of pay, and the sickness and absence expectations whilst on the event, ensuring a fair working relationship between all parties involved. The primary objective was to create a productive workforce environment with conditions of employment that reflect the productivity levels required to complete the work safely, effectively and on time.
Tony Lloyd, Regional Industrial Relations Manager of ECIA, stated, “The development of the Welfare Arrangement is a testament to the level of engagement and collaboration between all parties. This has set out a firm foundation for delivering a successful event.”
