ECIA Conference 2025

Review

On 21st May 2025, the Engineering Construction Industry Association (ECIA) Conference convened at the Hilton Cardiff, bringing together industry leaders to discuss key challenges and opportunities shaping the sector. The event featured a series of insightful presentations covering health issues, net-zero opportunities and workforce training and Competence offering valuable perspectives on the future of engineering construction.

The conference hosted a distinguished lineup of speakers, each contributing unique expertise to critical industry topics:

  • Andrew Hockey, CEO, ECITB – Shared his vision for the Leading Industry Learning Strategy for the next five years, reinforcing the need to equip the workforce with the skills essential for a clean-energy economy.
  • Ben Burggraaf, CEO, Net Zero Industry Wales – Outlined detailed Net Zero strategies and deployment plans for Wales providing resources with project opportunities to help Welsh industry adopt to low-carbon technologies.
  • Dominic Bennett, CEO, On Wellbeing – Introduced innovative solutions to improve mental health and behavioural change within organisations, including a bespoke app enabling employees to seek mental health support without fear of judgment.
  • Mohammad Wasway, PatientsCann UK – Delivered an important discussion on workplace policies for employees prescribed medical cannabis, emphasising the balance between legal obligations, workplace safety, and employee well-being.
  • Chris Mann, Director of Learning & Assurance, ECITB – Highlighted the integration of emerging technologies in learning strategies, explaining his vision of competency assurance in engineering and construction.
  • Dr. Michael Wolffe, Net Zero Programme Manager, Enterprise Cheshire & Warrington – Discussed various strategic net-zero projects, and the need to equip employers with relevant workforce.numbers and skills.

Attendees had the opportunity to test their knowledge of industrial relations and the NAECI agreement through an interactive quiz, with winners recognised for their commitment to industry best practices during the evening meal. Winners were delighted with their prizes.

Beyond the formal discussions, the Conference fostered networking among members, strengthening industry connections and collaborative efforts. Over a three-course dinner and buffet, professionals engaged in dynamic conversations, sharing insights and building relationships to tackle pressing industry challenges together. The ECIA team was pleased to see its efforts facilitate new business connections, reinforcing the association’s commitment to advancing industry progress through meaningful engagement and strategic partnerships.
