CCNSG: recognition on civils sites

We are pleased to announce that after discussion with the United Kingdom Contractors Group (UKCG) CCNSG cards will now be a recognised scheme for entry onto civils sites run by UKCG contractors. Click here for more details.

It has long been frustrating to ECIA members that the health and safety training standard and investment embodied in CCNSG has been irrelevant in construction environments outside engineering construction. We hope that this new development will be welcomed by members as a significant contribution to reducing unnecessary ‘card proliferation’.

There are some key points to bear in mind.

  • Possession of CCNSG on its own will not enable entry onto a UKCG site. Individuals must also have evidence of relevant trade skills. For engineering construction trades this will usually be in the form of an ACE card. Combined ACE & CCNSG cards will therefore be useful in this respect;
  • Recognition by UKCG of CCNSG for civils sites, does not mean that there has been any change in the normal requirement for CCNSG for entry onto engineering construction sites. Engineering construction clients will continue to define what they require for entry onto their sites and in most cases this will continue to be CCNSG;
  • These developments do not involve any new reciprocity between CCNSG and other schemes.
